Poetry With A Mission

...a thought provoking poetical exercise.

“But God proves His love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us” (Rom 5:8)

“...God is love…” (1 John 4:16).

“For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Rom 8:38,39).

“How precious is Your steadfast love, O God! All people may take refuge in the shadow of Your wings” (Ps 36:7).

“The Lord is good to all, and His compassion is over all that He has made” (Ps 145:9).

“But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness” (Ps 86:15).

“See, I have inscribed you on the palms of My hands…” (Isa 49:16).

“Then when you call upon Me and come and pray to Me, I will hear you” (Jer 29:12).

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the punishment that made us whole, and by His bruises we are healed” (Isa 53:5).

“For by grace [mercy on God’s part] you have been saved through faith [belief, trust, acceptance], and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God – not the result of works, so that no one may boast” (Eph 2:8,9).

“If we confess our sins, He who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

God's Not Like That

So now you think you’ve blown it, and well and truly this time,
Convinced that once too often is an unpardonable crime.
And you think God’s called your angel home, taken back His grace,
Wiped you from the Book of Life, cancelled your heavenly place.

Hey, I really understand, I have felt the same way too,
So sure that God had left me, feeling written off like you.
But guess who has you thinking that, and then builds on your despair,
It’s just that crafty devil using falsehood to ensnare.

You’re really sorry, aren’t you, and you’d tried to do your best.
If God would just forgive you, you’d return to Him with zest.
Well, let me tell you clearly, you don’t have a thing to fear.
Just contritely bow before Him, and, “I love you,” you’ll soon hear.

Don’t let the devil fool you, for God truly understands.
His sympathy and caring has left marks upon His hands.
Your weakness overwhelmed you, for by nature you’re a sinner,
That’s why only grace can save, both seasoned and beginner.

Our God is so forgiving, for He knows our weakened frame,
Hence why He came and died for us, that we His grace could claim.
He knew that only mercy could release us from our plight,
And that only His enabling would then see us win the fight.

Sometimes when we're struggling we can feel that God isn't there,
But that is when He’s more so, for He your burden wants to bear.
Your plight affects Him greatly, even when it be self-caused,
And yes, right throughout your life, His care’s never stopped or paused.

We may also feel unable to re-approach our Saviour,
Feeling terribly ashamed because of wrong behaviour.
But could we behold His face, we’d have no hesitation,
For we’d only see that love that had Him die for His creation.

God’s not out to point the finger, nor to us accuse or blame,
And though He has His standards, He’s made allowance for our frame.
God sees our daily struggles, and tender pity fills His heart,
Thus, help amidst our trials He has promised to impart.

So, don’t despair if struggling, for God’s grace will see you through,
So long as you're trying your very best His will to do.
Perseverance is the key, allowing God to rule your heart,
Trusting in His promises, and that from Him you don’t depart.

However, should you leave Him, (though a sad thing that would be),
Lovingly He’ll wait for you, hoping your return to see.
Nothing stops God loving you; it’s only sin that He hates,
For He knows that its practice could keep you from Heaven’s gates.

When Satan whispers in your ear things about God that aren't true,
Remember God’s not like that, that it’s Satan fooling you.
Remember how Christ suffered, think of all that He went through,
And how He would have done it if the only sinner had been you.

Would such a God condemn you should you stumble with your load,
Or because you've repeatedly trodden that same old road?
Would such a God discard you should you still cry, “Please help me!"
No, NEVER! NEVER! NEVER! Such a love wouldn't let that be.
