Poetry With A Mission

...a thought provoking poetical exercise.

Incey Wincey Spider

There's an amusing little song, that for years has been about,
Which says: Incey Wincey Spider clambered up a water spout.
It also states that some rain came, and washed Incey Wincey out,
For the rain then ran off the roof, and gushed down the water spout.

But this story doesn’t end there, as the rain soon went away,
And right back up the water spout, Incey Wincey made his way.
Even though dazed and bedraggled, Incey Wincey persevered,
And high up the water spout — amidst loud cheers — soon reappeared.

Now, all of us can learn from this — a lesson identify —
For sometimes things can happen that soon see our plans go awry.
But we too, just like Incey Wincey, should not accept defeat,
And instead, with our head held high, quickly get back on our feet.

Yes, if Incey Wincey did it, after he was drenched by rain,
I’m very sure that we can too, if we don’t let our zeal wane.
For we’re bigger than a spider, and we have a smarter brain,
So, don’t give up, but try again, should your plans go down the drain.

Yes, whenever things get hairy, just think of Incey Wincey,
And then exercise some faith, for one can build on a tincey.
Don’t go giving in to doubt, but instead, leave some room for hope,
And should any say “Give up,” copy Incey Wincey, say “Nope.”

Yes, life is full of water spouts that we sometimes need to climb,
Which can flood too, just like in this song I’ve mentioned, made to rhyme.
And we can get a soaking, possibly even get washed out,
But just as we are exiting — “I will return!” — we should shout.

Yes, Incey Wincey’s a hero, but we can be heroes too,
If we ’midst adversity, a positive attitude pursue.
For if a spider can do it, with a funny name like that,
I’m sure that we can also — so, go on, be a copycat.

Water spout: A pipe that carries rain down off the roof
that collects and flows via channels — spouting.
