Poetry With A Mission

...a thought provoking poetical exercise.

Asking For Trouble

Your brain is very precious — in fact, it’s actually you,
For your brain is where your mind is, your personality too.
And also your character — yes, the person that you’ve become,
Thus, when it comes to drugs, friend, I wouldn’t bother, nor succumb.

No, don’t ever play with your mind, don’t ever mess with your brain,
For that’s your control centre, and what you wreck, you don’t regain.
Be it marijuana, heroin, LSD, ‘P’ or cocaine,
For your sanity sake, and for your health sake, you should refrain.

Yes, take note of what drugs have done, and learn from others’ mistakes,
Or if you're using them already, free yourself — hit the brakes!
For sooner or later, friend, taking those drugs will cripple you,
Given they’re mind wreckers, life wreckers, and society harm too.

In your mind is where you live, and your whole life you will spend there,
Thus, should you wreck that place, friend, you’ll have good reason for despair.
It’s a crazy thing to do — that’s right, it’s just insanity,
For who would destroy their own home — their brain — voluntarily?

Your brain is designed to give you a lifetime of normal use,
But it will fail to give that if it suffers from such abuse.
You will find that certain functions won’t deliver what’s required,
And that your romance with taking drugs has horribly backfired.

Plus, while the drug pushers grow rich — you, friend, will simply grow poor,
And as your addiction grows, you’ll seek out those pushers more.
Soon hooked, broke, and circle bound, you'll no doubt turn to crime to find
The money for your addiction and those masters of your mind.

Yes, you will soon become a slave, just a puppet on a string,
Who’s just feathering the nest of some pusher and rich drug king.
Plus, you’ll just hurt the ones you love, bring them misery and shame,
And you will have to live with knowing that you’re the one to blame.
