Poetry With A Mission

...a thought provoking poetical exercise.

Heaven Yes, Or, Heaven No

“ ‘And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.’ ‘Then He will say to those on the left hand ,‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels’ ” (Matt 25:40,41, NKJV).

Yes, you may not like what I say, and you may not like what I do,
But the way that you choose to treat me could prove pivotal for you,
For God himself, loves me dearly, though chief of sinners I may be,
And He is watching intently how you are responding to me.

Treating me incorrectly is sin, for I’m a ward of the King,
Who loves me as His own child, even though I'm of earthly offspring.
Therefore, those who hurt or mistreat me, will pain and offend my Lord,
For He considers all as precious, and such wounding has outlawed.

My Lord bore the brunt of my sins when He suffered on Calvary,
Knowing that I’d still let Him down, wilfully or unconsciously.
Thus, He’s given an example of the love that you too should show
Not just me, but all He died for, and cares for, exceedingly so.

Yes, I’m a child of the King, who, an angel has granted to me,
One who each and every day, my welfare must wisely oversee.
This angel keeps a record of all that is said and done to me,
For such concerns my Saviour greatly, who watches protectively.

Should it be that you don’t like me, you’re still to love me, Christ has said,
For if such love is absent, it is clear that you're not Spirit led,
For God even loves His enemies, and says that we’re to act the same,
That is, if eternal life we want, and the right to claim His name.

Whenever my Saviour looks at me, tender pity fills His heart,
For He knows how I stagger so, each time the devil hurls a dart.
But should you aid this devil whenever he seeks to injure me,
You’ll pierce the heart of Christ, and have Satan claiming victory.

Yes, I am the King’s creation — thus, those who wound me, wound my Lord,
And therefore, how you choose to treat me, will determine your reward,
For how we have treated each other, Heaven’s record books will show,
And Christ, by our name will one day stamp, Heaven yes, or, Heaven no.
