Poetry With A Mission

...a thought provoking poetical exercise.

Dare We Rob God?

“Do you not know that those who are employed in the temple service get their food from the temple, and those who serve at the altar share in what is sacrificed on the altar? In the same way, the Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel” (1 Cor 9:13,14).

The Christian who chooses not to pay tithe is acting unscripturally,
For the Scriptures state that a Christian should, as such supports the ministry.
This tithe supplies the pastor with a wage, so that God’s Word pastors can spread,
Unhindered and undistracted — and it also, ensures that the flock's fed...

...with the Word, that is.

Tithe is a tenth of our income, and also of any profit we make,
Which we are to give ungrudgingly, and are to do so, for our Lord's sake.
Though everything on Earth belongs to Him, a tenth is all that He asks for,
Which is very generous indeed, given that He could ask for far more.

It’s the same with His Sabbath — as He only asks for a tenth — just one day,
Even though He could ask for seven, but no, He gave six for work and play.
Yes, even though every day belongs to Him, He has only asked for one,
For He’s a very generous God, and so much for everyone has done.

Even Abraham faithfully paid tithe — this, well before the Jewish law,
That is, the Ceremonial law that Moses wrote, and God oversaw.
Not the moral Ten Commandment law that God gave to man separately,
And which was written by His very own finger, for all humanity.

Does God really need this tithe He asks of us? Isn’t there another way?
Well, other ways there may very well be, but our God likes working with clay.
He knows that if we learn to give — sacrifice — much more like Him we will be,
And that as a result, we'll be more grateful, care more for humanity.

And therefore, those who pay tithe — God will bless — and often materially,
But the greatest blessing of all that comes to us is spiritually.
Yes, each one of us is called to sacrifice for the greater good of all,
And particularly, so that others will hear and heed the Gospel call.

Given all that God has done for us, and all that He has given us too,
How could we withhold a measly tenth, thus denying Him what He is due?
Besides, Christians are simply stewards, there is nothing at all that they own,
For all of this Earth’s bounties belong to God — and therefore, are just on loan.
